Leaving Cert class looks forward to college, the Irish Independent has learned details of plans to radically ease the pressure for points.



These will include changes to the grades offered at Leaving Cert and to the way courses are taught during the first year in college.



In a groundbreaking initiative, Trinity College confirmed yesterday that it planned to change how it accepted students for its elite law course from 2014, putting more weight on their general performance rather than just their points.



But this is just one part of a reform of the muchcriticised points system, which could ugg bailey button boots also see universities offer all students much more general firstyear courses.



The aim is to smooth out the level of points that Leaving Cert students need to hit, instead of a system where the points targets peak sharply on specialist subjects with limited places.



This trend has pushed up the points requirements for many college places over recent years and caused a ripple effect for other courses.



It can leave school leavers bitterly disappointed and choosing college courses based purely on points rather than what they really want to do.

The aim would again be to smooth out the levels of points that students can expect to achieve.



The proposals also involve awarding different point levels to different Leaving Cert subjects, although the details have to be worked out.



The universities are seeking discussions with the State Examinations Commission and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment about the matter.
